East Lincoln High stayed a game up in the race for the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A girls’ softball lead with a 7-0 victory over Newton-Conover on Tuesday in Newton.
The Mustangs are 9-1, one game better than West Lincoln, as they head into a league game at home scheduled Friday at 5 p.m. against West Caldwell.
Newton-Conover, 2-9 in the league, is in seventh place and faces Lincolnton on the road Friday at 5 p.m.
Bunker Hill 11, Lincolnton 0: At Bunker Hill, the Bears blanked the Wolves and sit tied for third place in the league with Maiden.
The Wolves are scheduled to play Bandys in a doubleheader at Bandys at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Bears’ next league game is also against Bandys, scheduled on Friday at 5 p.m.
Maiden 7, Bandys 3: At Bandys, the Blue Devils won and they’ll go into a home game Thursday at 5 p.m. against West Lincoln in a tie with Bunker Hill for third place.
Bandys has a twinbill on Wednesday at home against Lincolnton, a regularly scheduled league game plus an earlier rainout of a game set for Lincolnton.
West Lincoln 14-14, West Caldwell 1-2: The Rebels swept a doubleheader at home, winning 14-1 and 14-2 to stay on the heels of East Lincoln in the race for a league title.
West Lincoln is 8-2 in the conference, a game back of the Mustangs, and is set to play at Maiden on Thursday at 5 p.m.
NORTHWESTERN 3A-4A
Patton 21, Hickory 2: Patton, playing at home, rolled past Hickory to reach 3-8 in conference games.
Patton is in seventh place, a game back of Watauga, and Hickory (0-11) is in last place in the league.
SOUTH MOUNTAIN ATHLETIC 2A-3A
Crest 7, Chase 0: At Crest, the Chargers won to improve to 8-3 in the conference. They are two games back of league-leading R-S Central (10-1).
Crest plays at Kings Mountain on Thursday at 6 p.m., and Chase is at home to play R-S Central with a 6 p.m start.
East Burke 21, Shelby 3: At Shelby, the Cavs cruised to a win that leaves them a 6-3 in the league and in third place.
East Burke, a game behind Crest in a battle for second place, is to play Draughn at East Burke on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Shelby is scheduled to play a non-league game at Hunter Huss at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and at East Rutherford in a conference game at 6 p.m. Thursday.
East Rutherford 16, Burns 13: At Burns, the Cavs won a slugfest to even their league mark at 5-5 and drop the Bulldogs to 2-8 in conference games.
On Thursday, it’s Shelby at East Rutherford (6 p.m.), and Burns has the league’s open date before the Easter break.
Draughn 14, Kings Mountain 7: At Draughn, the Wildcats improved to 6-6 in the league with a victory that puts them in fifth place, one game back of Kings Mountain (7-5).
Draughn travels Thursday to play East Burke at 6 p.m., while the Mountaineers are at home at 6 p.m. to battle second-place Crest.
