HICKORY—The Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) women’s basketball team, off to a 3-1 start after winning on Sunday, is taking a long break.
The Red Hawks are idle until Dec. 5 when they face USC Salkehatchie on the road (5 p.m.), and their next home game is Dec. 8 against Fayetteville Tech (1 p.m.).
CVCC beat the Belmont Abbey junior varsity 86-32 on Sunday at the Tarlton Complex behind Sherry Johnson’s 24 points.
The Red Hawks pulled ahead 25-8 in the first quarter when Johnson, Milequa Eason and Zharia Brown each scored six points.
CVCC led 43-16 at the half behind nine points from Johnson, eight by Brown and seven each from Eason and Ivy Eller.
Johnson, who battled early foul trouble, scored 15 points in the second half. She also finished with eight rebounds, three assists, six steals and a block.
Brown recorded a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds), Eller scored a season-high 13 points and Rainey finished with 10 points, six assists and five rebounds.
