ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s women will open the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) soccer tournament on Tuesday night with a home match.
The Bears are the No. 3 seed and preparing to battle No. 6 Tusculum in Hickory on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the first round.
The semifinals and finals of the tournament shift to Manchaster Meadows on Friday and Sunday.
Carson-Newman is the No. 1 seed after winning a regular-season title and Lincoln Memorial is the No. 2 seed, securing a tie-breaker with LRU via an 2-1 win over the Bears in mid-October.
LRU 2, Anderson 0 (Saturday)
The Bears (10-5-1, 7-3 South Atlantic Conference) picked up their 10th win of the season with a conference victory at Anderson, S.C.
The match was scoreless at the half.
Abbey Brown of LRU scored twice in five minutes to give the Bears a lead.
LRU outshot Anderson 15-8, including 6-3 on goal.
Anderson goalie Abby Helm came into Saturday’s match with a goals against average of 0.83. She made four saves.
Lauren Sterling had three saves for LRU.
Brown has 16 goals this season and 38 points, both leading the SAC.
LRU is 7-1-1 on the road this season and has won three straight matches.
