Bryson Bailey threw a no-hitter and Kings Mountain High scored eight runs in the seventh inning on Wednesday night as the visiting Mountaineers rolled past East Burke 14-0 in South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A baseball.
Bailey, a senior right-hander, shut the Cavs (3-20, 1-15) down as Kings Mountain (11-13, 9-7) closed its regular season by moving into a tie with idle Draughn for fourth place in the conference.
If Burns wins on Thursday at home against league champion R-S Central, there will be a three-way tie for fourth (Draughn, Kings Mountain and Burns).
The loss dropped East Burke, which lost its fifth straight game, to 3-20 overall and 1-15 in the SMAC 2A-3A. The Cavs finish in last place with their fewest wins since going 3-21 in 2012.
Crest 11, Shelby 1: At Shelby, the Chargers (15-6, 12-4) won their ninth straight game. They had 11 hits, two each from Nick Melton, Luke Scism and winning pitcher Riley Cheek, a Shelby Daily Star game report said.
Crest had six hits in the fourth inning, when it scored six runs.
The Chargers are a half-game up on East Rutherford in the race for second place behind R-S Central, and East Rutherford plays Chase on Thursday in Forest City to close the regular season.
Shelby has lost four straight and dropped to 9-14 overall and 5-11 in the conference. The Golden Lions will finish in seventh place.
The SMAC 2A-3A plays a 16-game schedule and does not play a conference tournament.
