MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Jarrett selected among top South Atlantic League players

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The South Atlantic League named its top stars for the season on Tuesday and included on that list, as a utility outfielder, was Catawba County’s Zach Jarrett.

Jarrett, who played high school baseball at Hickory and college baseball at Charlotte, is playing for the Delmarva (Md.) Shorebirds.

He is one of the SAL’s top hitters – currently tied for second in hits after leading in that category at one point – and he is also among the top 20 in batting averages, doubles, triples, RBIs and home runs

Jarrett was drafted in the 28th round by the Baltimore Orioles and played short season baseball at Aberdeen (Md.), hitting .201 in 45 games with two home runs and seven RBIs.

He has played 122 games for Delmarva through Tuesday and is hitting .257 in 168 pro games with 31 doubles, six triples, 16 home runs and 74 RBIs.
