NEWTON – St. Stephens High kicker Bryce DeSantis has won the WNNC Oldies 101.3 FM Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award for Week 9 of the football season.
DeSantis, a senior kicker and punter, had field goals of 24 and 31 yards and a fumble recovery on a kickoff to lead the Indians past visiting Watauga 26-21 last Friday night at home in a Northwestern 3A-4A game.
DeSantis’ fumble recovery on the kickoff set St. Stephens up for a game-winning score. He also had a key punt that pinned Watauga inside its 5 with less than three minutes to play.
St. Stephens (3-5, 2-2) — tied with Watauga, West Caldwell and Hickory for third place in the Northwestern 3A-4A – next plays on Friday at league-leading Alexander Central at 7:30 p.m.
The Golden Helmet Award, in its 36th year, is presented each week after area head football coaches nominate players for consideration.
