PGA TOUR: Poston shoots third-round 70, makes cut in Texas tournament

FORT WORTH, Tex. – J.T. Poston rebounded on Saturday to shoot a 70 in the third round of the US PGA Tour Dean & DeLuca Invitational, making the cut for the 15^th time in 19 tournaments this season.

A former star golfer at Hickory High and Western Carolina, Poston will enter Sunday’s final round tied for 32^nd with eight other golfers, including Phil Mickelson.

Poston, 23, shared the lead after one round of the tournament with an opening round of 65 but ballooned to a 76 in Friday’s second round and fell into a tie for 33^rd.

He shot 35s on the front and back nines on Saturday. He birdied holes No. 1 and No. 10 and had bogeys on No. 4 and No. 12.

Poston, whose round average on the PGA Tour this season is 70.987, is well behind leader Webb Simpson, who shot a 67 on Saturday. Simpson is at 9-under par 201 and two strokes up on Paul Casey and Danny Lee.

On Saturday, Casey closed at 68 and Lee at 69, leaving them at 203 each.
