FORT WORTH, Tex. – J.T. Poston rebounded on Saturday to shoot a 70 in the third round of the US PGA Tour Dean & DeLuca Invitational, making the cut for the 15th time in 19 tournaments this season.
A former star golfer at Hickory High and Western Carolina, Poston will enter Sunday’s final round tied for 32nd with eight other golfers, including Phil Mickelson.
Poston, 23, shared the lead after one round of the tournament with an opening round of 65 but ballooned to a 76 in Friday’s second round and fell into a tie for 33rd.
He shot 35s on the front and back nines on Saturday. He birdied holes No. 1 and No. 10 and had bogeys on No. 4 and No. 12.
Poston, whose round average on the PGA Tour this season is 70.987, is well behind leader Webb Simpson, who shot a 67 on Saturday. Simpson is at 9-under par 201 and two strokes up on Paul Casey and Danny Lee.
On Saturday, Casey closed at 68 and Lee at 69, leaving them at 203 each.
