HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md., Baysox)

Harvey, a first-round draft pick by Baltimore after a sterling career at Bandys High, had another tough start on Thursday night at Akron, Ohio. He pitched four innings, giving up eight hits, four runs (three earned) with no walks and seven strikeouts and did not get a decision.

Akron beat Bowie 7-4 before 3,223 as Harvey threw strikes on 64 of his 85 pitches and faced 20 batters.

He is 0-1 this season with an ERA of 7.82 after pitching 12 2/3 innings, giving up 21 hits, 21 runs (11 earned) with four walks and 19 strikeouts.

Bowie (3-11) continues its series at Akron on Friday night.

Harvey didn’t pitch after June 2 of last season and went 1-2 with a 5.57 ERA in nine starts, pitching 32 1/3 innings, walking nine and striking out 30.

He’s in his sixth year in the minor leagues after being a first-round draft pick in 2013.

In his first five pro seasons, Harvey went 8-10 with an ERA of 3.11 with 47 appearances (all starts) and 176 2/3 innings pitched. He walked 60 and struck out 217.

JARRETT

ZACH JARRETT (Class A Advanced, Fredrick, Va. Keys)

Jarrett, a former star at Hickory High and at Charlotte, started in centerfield and went 1-for-4 as the No. 4 hitter for the Keys, who beat visiting Salem (Va.) 2-1 on Thursday night before 3,086.

He is hitting .250 with a home run and four RBIs, and his batting average in his last 10 games is .281.

The Keys (6-8) are at home through Sunday against Salem (Va.).

For fans interested in Fredrick’s games in North Carolina, they will be at Fayetteville for three games on Tuesday through next Thursday and play at Winston-Salem on April 27-28.

Jarrett has played in 188 pro games to date, hitting .260 with 17 home runs and 83 RBIs. He’s in his third pro season, playing first at Aberdeen (Md.) and then in 129 games last season at Class A
Delmarva (Md.), where he hit .277 with 26 doubles, six triples and 14 home runs. He drove in 72 runs, walked 41 times and struck out 136 times and was a South Atlantic League (SAL) All-Star.

DEAL

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Advanced Florida Fire Frogs)

Deal, a left-hander who played at Bandys High and Presbyterian College, did not pitch on Thursday when Daytona Beach (Fla.) beat the Fire Frogs 7-2 before 206 fans.

He  made his third start of the season on Wednesday, gaining no decision after pitching six innings in a 5-2 win over visiting Clearwater (Fla.). He gave up four hits, two runs (both earned) with two walks and four strikeouts as 241 fans watched.

Deal is 1-0 this season with an ERA of 1.59 in three starts, pitching 17 innings. He has allowed nine hits, five runs (three earned), one home run and has walked five and struck out 13.

On Wednesday, he threw 52 of his 81 pitches for strikes, faced 24 batters and got 11 groundball outs.

Florida (6-9) is at home (Kissimmee, Fla.) against Daytona Beach (Fla.) on Friday and Saturday.

If Deal pitches on four days of rest, his next start would likely be Monday at Clearwater; if five days of rest, on Tuesday at Clearwater.

He is in his third pro season after signing with the Braves after a morning tryout at Bandys.

In Rome (Ga.) last season, Deal went 9-1 with an ERA of 2.17 in 27 games (five starts), earning two saves and pitching 78 2/3 innings. He walked 17 and struck out 82.

Deal’s career numbers heading into the season: 12-3 with 2.47 ERA, 41 games, four saves, 109 1/3 innings pitched with 21 walks and 109 strikeouts.
