OTHER AREA PLAYERS

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

HARVEY

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury sustained while trying to maneuver away from a foul ball into the dugout on a day he was not pitching.

A report out on Wednesday (see below) says he needs a bit more recovery time before throwing again.

He was scratched from his 10th start (June 8) and remains listed as “active” on the Bowie roster.

Harvey is on the Baltimore Orioles’ 40-man roster, so if he were to go on the 60-day disabled list he would be considered on the major league roster during that time.

Harvey is 1-2 with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.

Bowie finished last in the first-half West Division of the Eastern League, 8 ½ games back of division winner Akron (Ohio).

Visiting Akron downed Bowie 13-3 on Wednesday night before 1,324. The Baysox are now 34-43 overall.

ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

Zach Jarrett — who starred in high school at Hickory and in college at Charlotte – is an outfielder for the Shorebirds, who hammered Greensboro 20-2 on the road on Wednesday night before 3,521.

Jarrett, as usual, batted third in the Shorebirds’ order and started in centerfield. He went 2-for-6 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI Delmarva improved to 39-35 overall and 4-3 in the second half in the SAL Northern Division standings.

He drove in a run in the fourth inning with a single.

In 70 games this season, Jarrett’s batting .310 with 17 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 43 RBIs. He’s hitting .381 with no home runs and seven RBIs in his last games.

Jarrett is among eight SAL hitters at .300 or better, ranking fifth, and one of 14 in the league with 10 or more home runs.

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal, a left-hander, did not pitch on Wednesday night in Charleston (S.C.), where the RiverDogs beat the Braves 6-1 before 3,782.

Deal pitched last Thursday night (June 21) at Augusta (Ga.) and had his first bad outing as a Braves player, allowing four earned runs and two home runs in a 6-1 loss.

The Braves are 43-33 overall and 3-4 in the second-half SAL Southern Division standings. They won the first half, securing a postseason berth.

Deal is now 4-1 with an ERA of 3.22 – up from 1.80 — and has pitched 36 1/3 innings in 15 appearances. He has issued nine walks and struck out 48.
