SMAC 2A-3A GIRLS SOCCER: Kings Mountain goes 16-0-0 in conference

Kings Mountain High’s girls closed a perfect regular season in South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A soccer by beating East Burke 9-0 in Icard on Wednesday night.

The Mountaineers finish 16-0-0 in league play while East Burke closed at 5-8-3 and shares fifth place with Shelby.

Arianna Hawkins made 12 saves for East Burke.

Kings Mountain won eight of its league matches by shutout and gave up only 10 goals and two only twice. The Mountaineers won one match by one goal (East Rutherford), the next closest win margin was by four goals (R-S Central) and they outscored opponents 114-10.

The Kings Mountain junior varsity won 6-0 over the Cavs.

Crest 4, Shelby 2: At Shelby, the Chargers won to sweep the Golden Lions and finish in second place at 13-2-1.

The Chargers’ league losses were to Kings Mountain (4-1, 6-2) and they played East Rutherford to a scoreless tie.
