LENOIR – Hibriten High reached 10 wins in baseball for the fourth time in five seasons on Wednesday with a 10-4 victory over visiting Freedom in a Northwestern 3A-4A game.
The Panthers (10-6, 6-5) have won two straight heading into a makeup conference game at home on Thursday at 7 p.m. against South Caldwell.
Scoring 10 or more runs for only the second time this season, Hibriten is within a half-game of Hickory in the conference chase for third place behind league-leading Fred T. Foard and second-place South Caldwell.
After playing the Spartans, the Panthers will go into the Easter Classic at the Legion Fairgrounds Field in Newton at the No. 4 seed and play No. 5 seed Hickory on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the last of four opening round games.
Freedom is scheduled to play in the Causby Classic at Patton next week and is scheduled to meet Chase in the first round on Monday at a time to be announced.
