Parkwood High scored a run in the first inning and another in the fifth on Friday night at home en route to a 2-0 state 2A softball victory over Draughn that snapped the Wildcats’ nine-game win streak.
Draughn (18-7), a No. 14 seed, was the lowest remaining seed in any Western N.C. softball bracket. The Wildcats tied East Burke for third place – behind R-S Central and Crest – in the South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A.
Sixth-seeded Parkwood (22-2) is headed to the West 2A best-of-3 title series that must begin by Tuesday.
Parkwood’s opponent will be determined on Saturday night at 6 p.m. when No. 5 R-S Central (21-2) faces No. 1 Madison (24-0) at Madison. That game was postponed on Friday.
No. 8 Eastern Randolph is in the East 2A title series and will face No. 1 South Granville or No. 4 North Johnston.

No. 2 Richmond County 6, No. 10 Mooresville 0: The Raiders (25-4) scored a run in the fourth inning, three in the fifth inning and two in the sixth inning to eliminate the visiting Blue Devils (21-4).
Mooresville shared the North Piedmont 3A-4A regular-season title with Alexander Central.
Richmond County advances to a best-of-3 series for the West 4A title next week, facing No. 3 North Davidson (25-5).
The opening game will be in Rockingham, Game 2 in Welcome and Game 3, if needed, in Rockingham.
The East 4A series is No. 4 Southern Alamance against No. 1 Cape Fear.
