HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER: Sain’s 2 goals lift East Burke past Freedom

MORGANTON – Cassie Sain scored both goals for East Burke High’s girls as they tripped archrival Freedom 2-0 on Friday night in a non-conference soccer match at the Catawba River Soccer Complex.

Brooke Arney had an assist on each of Sain’s goals.

Ariana Hawkins made 10 saves to record a shutout in goal for the Cavs.

Freedom outshot East Burke 19-9 and had a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.

East Burke improved to 7-11-4, and the Cavs finished 5-8-3 and shared fifth place with Shelby in the South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A.

Freedom finished 5-14-1 overall and its 1-12-1 record in the Northwestern 3A-4A left it in seventh place.
