ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University has two players on the All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) second-team in women’s lacrosse, one a freshman.
Freshman midfielder Alyssa Sack, from Senoia, Ga., and junior defender Emily Kessler, from Syracuse, N.Y., were the Bears’ All-SAC selections when the team was released on Monday by SAC officials.
Sack is second in scoring for the Bears (36) and in total points (48), and Kessler has started every match this year for LRU and anchored a defense that has allowed 10 goals per match.
LRU has four honorable mentions – sophomore Gabby Sousa of Delran, N.J.; sophomore Rachel Elmore of White Plains, Md.; senior Melissa Bechtel of Eldersburg, Md., and junior Ines Flueck of Coppell, Tex.
Kessler
Sousa is the Bears’ leader in goals (40) and points (50) while Elmore has 17 goals, seven assists and 24 total points. Betchel has started all 17 matches this season while Flueck ranks fourth in the league in goals-against average (10.52) in addition to having 155 saves this year.
LRU (10-7) is the No. 5 seed in the SAC tournament and plays fourth-seeded Catawba on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Salisbury in a quarterfinal match.
