SAINT LEO, Fla. – Three goals on Tuesday by senior Torrey Schwitkis helped provide a good outcome for Lenoir-Rhyne University’s women’s lacrosse team.
LRU reached 10 wins and snapped a three-game losing streak by beating Saint Leo 15-10 on the road.
Schwitkis led the way for the Bears and sophomore Gabby Sousa and freshman Cathleen Gaffney each added two goals.
Kelsey Burns had a match-high five goals for the Lions.
The match was tied 6-all entering intermission before the Bears took control by scoring the first four goals of the second half. Sousa, who has a team-leading 41 goals, scored the game-winner just one minute, 12 seconds into the second half.
Junior All-American goalkeeper Ines Flueck earned a win after stopping six shots for the Bears, who held the edge in shots (30-21) and ground balls (24-19).
Saint Leo’s Erin Davis suffered the loss in goal despite making five saves.
LRU will have Senior Day on Saturday, facing Catawba on Senior Day for the Bears, with a 4 p.m. start.
