ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University has won three top South Atlantic Conference (SAC) awards in men’s soccer.
In voting by conference head coaches, the Bears gained the SAC Defender of the Year award (Marcos Enruiquez), SAC Freshman of the Year (Carles Montoliu Lobo) and SAC Coach of the Year (Jack Winter).
WINTER
The Bears won a regular-season title for the first time and the top seed for the SAC tournament, falling Friday in a semifinal against Lincoln Memorial.
LOBO
Emundo Robinson of Queens won the SAC Offensive Player of the Year award.
Enriquez, a senior from Pamplona, Spain, anchored the LRU defense. He was a key member of a defensive unit that allowed 24 goals in 16 matches with three shutout victories.
Montoliu Lobo, a midfielder from Valencia, Spain, was an instrumental part of the Bears’ regular season championship. He played in all 16 games, starting 15, recording an assist and six shots, three of which were on goal.
Winter led the Bears to an 10-5 overall record, going 7-3 in the SAC. His Bears led the league in scoring with 41 goals.
Robinson, a Stone Mountain, Ga. native, finished the regular season as a league leader in every offensive category. He was fourth in goals with eight, second in assists with six and third in points with 22.
LRU’s Ignacio De Goya and Victor Cascon were named first-team All-SAC as midfielders.
