MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Bears lock up at least share of conference crown

MARS HILL – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s men assured they’ll win at least a share of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) men’s lacrosse title with a 14-6 victory on Saturday at Mars Hill.

The Bears, ranked third in NCAA Division II, improved to 14-1 overall and 7-0 in the league with their 10th straight victory.

Sophomore midfielder Eric Dickinson led LRU with four goals against the Lions (1-12, 0-7), and freshman midfielder Myles Moffatt had one goal and six assists.

Dickinson scored the first three goals of the match in the opening three minutes as the Bears grabbed a 5-0 edge.

The Bears outshot the Lions 45-27 and led in ground balls 30-34.

Senior goalkeeper Ryan Crompton stopped nine shots for LRU while Mars Hill’s Ryan Kearney had 13 saves.

Jake Trafton scored twice for the Lions, who suffered their ninth straight loss.

LRU, 6-0 on the road this season, has won 23 straight regular-season SAC matches and is 37-4 in its last 41 matches.

The Bears have claimed four regular-season conference titles – 2014, 2016, 2017 and this season.

LRU can win an outright title when it closes the SAC schedule on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Coker.
