MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE: Bears’ Crompton wins defensive award for fifth time this season

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Ryan Crompton of Lenoir-Rhyne University has won a league defensive award for the fifth time this season in men’s lacrosse.

A senior goalkeeper from Fredrick, Md., Crompton was again named the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

He stopped nine shots last Saturday in a 15-7 win over Coker that wrapped up the SAC title for the Bears for a third straight season.

Crompton, the Bears’ all-time leader in saves (469), leads the league in save percentage (57.3) and ranks second in stops with 169.

He was a 2018 preseason all-conference honoree and earned the weekly leansive honor for the 11th time in his collegiate career.

The Bears (15-1, 8-0) are the top seed for this week’s SAC tournament, which starts Tuesday, and they are idle until a semifinal on Friday at 11 a.m. at Wingate.
