HARROGATE, Tenn. – Lincoln Memorial’s defense led it past Lenoir-Rhyne University on Saturday in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) men’s basketball.
The Railsplitters beat the visiting Bears 79-68 after holding them to 37.7 percent shooting, a season-low for LRU.
Lincoln Memorial improved to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in the SAC and LRU dropped to 13-4, 6-3.
Kamaran Calhoun of Lincoln Memorial led all scorers with 21 points and nine rebounds. He went 13-for-16 at the freee-throw line, where the Railsplitters were 24 of 35.
Cory Thomas led LRU with 14 points, hitting two 3-pointers and finishing with three rebounds and two assists.
Lincoln Memorial won the boards 41-32 and had a 21-8 edge in second chance points.
The Railsplitters led 30-28 at the half and had a hot hand in the second half, going 14 of 27 to the Bears’ 12 of 33.
Lincoln Memorial made six of its 11 attempts on 3-pointers over the final 20 minutes.
The Railsplitters beat the Bears for the 19th time in the last 21 matchups.
LRU, back in action on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in a home game with Catawba, is in a three-way tie for third place in the SAC with Catawba and Wingate.
