HICKORY — Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Kyle Dugger leads the Bears into homecoming weekend and a battle with Limestone after winning Special Teams Player of the Week in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).
Dugger, a junior from Fayetteville, became the first player in LRU history to return two punts for a touchdown in a single game as the Bears defeated Newberry 34-21 on the road on Saturday to stay undefeated in the league.
Limestone (0-6, 0-3) visits first-place LRU (5-1, 4-0) for a 2 p.m. kickoff in Moretz Stadium on Saturday.
Against Newberry, Dugger’s first punt return TD came midway through the second quarter as he scampered 69 yards to tie it at 14. He then tied it 21-all with a 64-yard return in the third quarter, which started a 20-0 run for the Bears.
Overall, Dugger had three returns for 157 yards, averaging 52.3 yards per return.
