NEWBERRY, S.C. – Newberry had only two hits and got the outs it needed in the eighth inning on Friday to trip visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University 4-2 in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) baseball.
The Wolves (9-4, 1-0) wiped out a 2-0 lead by the Bears (5-7, 0-1) to win despite being outhit 10-2.
LRU left 11 runners stranded.
The Wolves an Bears have a doubleheader scheduled on Saturday.
Newberry won the series opener after the Bears had runners at second and third with two outs in the eighth inning but didn’t score.
Zach Shoemaker, Mike McHugh, E.J. Ranel and Clayton Jeffries led LRU with McHugh doubling in a run and Shoemaker providing the other RBI.
Peyton Spangler drove in two runs for Newberry with a double.
Paul Hall (2-2) was the Bears’ starting pitcher, going five innings. He gave up three earned runs on two hits but walked five.
Quinton Driggers (4-0) got a win for the Wolves.
