Bears, Royals finish series Monday afternoon in Kannapolis

MARION, N.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University moved within a win of 10 for the baseball season on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader over Queens at The Big League Camp.
The Bears won 4-1 and 9-5, improving to 9-12 overall and 3-5 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) and Queens dipped to 5-13, 1-4.
LRU next plays on Monday at 4 p.m., facing Queens in Kannapolis.
LRU 4, Queens 1
Will Jones drove in two runs and the Bears had six hits to win the opening game on Sunday.
Queens had eight hits, led by Chase Hager going 3-for-5 and Domini Ford getting two hits and driving in a run.
Alex Shirazi worked seven innings as LRU’s starter, scattering seven hits and giving up one run. Griffin Templeton and Hunter Martin then pitched scoreless innings and allowed only one hit.
Zach Kelly took the loss for the Royals, going six innings. He gave up four runs on five hits and walked three, and Wes Boling held LRU to one hit over the final three innings.
LRU 9, Queens 5
LRU starter Paul Hall went five innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out 11 as the Bears won.
Matthew Freeman, Alex Reuynolds and Austin Reed combined for six of the Bears’ nine hits.
Anthony Orta went 2-for-3 with a double and Nick Melton drove in two runs for the Royals.
Jack Bergren fell to 2-2 after taking a loss. He allowed seven earned runs on six hits and three walks, pitching five innings.
Hall’s 11 Ks are a season-high and the most by an LRU pitcher this season.
