HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: West Lincoln wins South Fork 2A tourney with 14 finishing in top 3

LINCOLNTON – West Lincoln High had a wrestler finish in the top three – including five as individual weight class champions – en route to winning the South Fork 2A tournament on Saturday at Lincolnton.

The Rebels scored 239 points, finishing ahead of Newton-Conover (219.5) with five weight champions, five runners-up and four wrestlers in third place.

West Lincoln’s individual champions were Ricky Reynolds at 138 pounds, Canon Bridges at 152, Nathan Hull at 160, Alex Hall at 195 and Brock Steele at 285.

Bridges and Hull won their titles by pin.

Newton-Conover, the league’s regular-season champion, had four individual champions – Camden Spencer (106), Mitch Glover (113), Spenser Harris (126) and Joshua Nichols (170).

Spencer won an all-freshman final at 106, pinning West Lincoln’s Kemp Wehunt in one minutes, three seconds.

There were two sophomores winning individual titles, Reynolds of the Rebels at 138 pounds and Grayson Cannon of East Lincoln at 220 pounds.

Harris, a senior, remained undefeated for Newton-Conover (54-0) with a 9-1 decision in the title match at 126 over Dajzay Powell of Lincolnton.

Bandys’ Colby Teague improved to 44-1 in the 145 final with a 3-1 decision over West Lincoln’s Xander Pendergrass.
