Zoe Huffman’s chase of winning a third state singles title in 2A girls’ tennis for Maiden High is still ongoing.
Huffman won her first two matches on Friday at the Cary Tennis Park, setting up a Saturday morning semifinal match (8:30 a.m.) against Lauren Baddour of Carrboro at Middle Creek Park in Cary.
Fred T. Foard’s doubles team of Alexis Woglemuth and Emily Campbell won twice on Friday, also reaching the semifinals.
Woglemuth and Campbell face Madison Polyasko and Ellia Harris of Smoky Mountain at 8:30 a.m on Saturday at Middle Creek Park. In the opposite bracket, it’s Lake Norman Charter’s Zoe Panizza and Annie Thomas against Allie Fisher and Mae Anna Norris of Canton Pisgah.
Toni Laney of Bandys also reached the state tournament in 2A singles, winning her first round match before falling in the second round.
There were no individual qualifiers in the 2A tournament from the Northwestern Foothills 2A and none in the 3A or 4A tournaments from the Northwestern 3A-4A.
