Savannah Lail and Anna White combined for 19 kills on Tuesday night, leading Maiden High’s 3-0 victory over visiting Lincolnton in South Fork 2A volleyball.

The victory – 25-8, 25-13, 25-7 — kept the Blue Devils (4-0) in first place in the conference, a half-match ahead of East Lincoln (4-1) and one match up on Bandys (3-1).

Bandys visits Maiden on Thursday at 6 p.m., a rematch of a season-opener won 3-0 by the Blue Devils at Bandys.

Maiden is on an eight-match wins streak in the South Fork 2A and is 69-5 in league play dating back to the 2014-2015 season.

Against Lincolnton, Renna Odom had four aces for Maiden and Lainee Hentschel added four aces and six digs, Abby Gant made 13 assists and provided five aces and Adison Ford had 16 assists and three aces.

Lincolnton’s match at Newton-Conover on Thursday is postponed as the Red Devils are under quarantine. The Wolves play at Lake Norman Charter on Tuesday night.

Lake Norman Charter 3, West Lincoln 0

The Knights won 25-14, 25-20, 25-14 at home, improving to 3-2 in the South Fork 2A.

Lake Norman Charter is in fourth place and plays at East Lincoln on Thursday at 6 p.m.

West Lincoln is at home Wednesday (6 p.m.) for a makeup match against Bandys.

Fred T. Foard 3, West Iredell 0

The Tigers widened their Northwestern Foothills 2A lead, winning at home 25-10, 25-7, 25-9 to drop the Warriors out of a tie second place with Patton.

Foard is 7-0 at the halfway point of the conference schedule with Patton (5-1) in second and West Iredell (5-2) falling to third place.

The Tigers have won 33 straight conference matches (7-0, 14-0, 12-0) and have not lost a league match since Oct. 2018 when West Iredell won at Foard 3-0 to close the 2017-2018 regular season.

Foard’s home match on Thursday against Patton has been moved to Dec. 23, and the Tigers will next play Friday at home against Hibriten in a match moved up from Dec. 17.

Watauga 3, Hickory 0 (Monday)

The Pioneers won on the road – 25-18, 28-26, 25-20 – to take over first place in the Northwestern 3A-4A.

Watauga (6-0) ran its conference win streak to 61 matches and left Hickory (5-1) in second place, one match ahead of McDowell.

Megan Patton led Watauga with 30 assists while Caroline Farthing (14 kills, 19 digs) and Brooke Scheffler (14 kills, 12 digs) led the Pioneers at the net.

Sadie Sharpe added eight kills and 15 digs and Kanzie Baldwin provided 13 digs and three aces for Watauga.

The Pioneers are at home Wednesday (6 p.m.) against St. Stephens, and the Red Tornadoes’ next match is Monday at home against South Caldwell.

Alexander Central 3, Freedom 0 (Monday)

The Cougars (4-3) won 25-10, 25-10, 25-18 on Senior Night and they’re in fourth place in the Northwestern 3A-4A.

Brianna Abernathy led Alexander Central with nine kills and a block and Gracie Harrington had seven kills and one block.

Bryanna Payne’s 15 assists and two aces led the Cougars’ setters while Emily Brown provided eight assists and Madalyn Motley had five.

Harrington led with 18 digs while Shelbi Coffey had nine and Kara Gryder, Ashlyn Merritt and Brown each had six.

The players honored on Senior Night were Harrington, Dakota Clawson, Payne, Gryder, Brown, Coffey, Abernathy and Macy Fairchild.

Allie Patton (11 assists, three aces) and Lindsey Reece (nine digs, four kills, a block and two aces) sparked a two-set junior varsity win by the Cougars.

Alexander Central plays at McDowell on Wednesday at 6 p.m., and Freedom is at home Wednesday (6 p.m.), facing South Caldwell.

Maiden 3, Lake Norman Charter 2 (Monday)

The Blue Devils stayed in first place in the South Fork with a five-set home victory – 25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 15-10.

Lainee Henschel sparked Maiden with 22 digs and two aces and Lail added 18 kills and nine digs.

Also, Grace Kilby provided 12 kills for the Blue Devils, White made 11 kills and Odom had nine.

Abby Gantt added 30 assists and three aces and Ford had 27 assists for Maiden.

Fred T. Foard 3, East Burke 0 (Dec. 3)

The Tigers won handily in Icard, 25-9, 25-9, 25-10 behind Michelle Thao and Martina Foster.

Thao had 10 kills and six digs and Foster provided eight kills and two blocks.

Also for Foard, Hailey Johnston had six digs and17 assists, Sarah Lingle made 15 assists and Lyndsey Warren contributed seven digs and two aces.

Trinity Tramel finished with six digs and four aces and Averie Dale and Jamianne Foster each had three blocks for the Tigers.
