HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Key Bandys-East Lincoln soccer match is at East Lincoln

A key South Fork 2A boys’ high school soccer match on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.– Bandys versus East Lincoln – will be played at East Lincoln.

The schools have traded playing dates on the original South Fork 2A schedule due to some ongoing work on athletic fields at Bandys.

The return match will be at Bandys on Oct. 15.

East Lincoln is off to a 10-0 start overall and is 3-0 in the league with wins over Lake Norman Charter, Lincolnton via penalty kicks and North Lincoln.

Bandys is 2-1 in the league, beating Maiden and defending league champion Newton-Conover in overtime – the Red Devils’ first loss in a conference match since 2015 – before falling to Lincolnton penalty kicks.

East Lincoln 6, North Lincoln 3

Logan Gilley’s two goals helped the Mustangs win a home South Fork 2A match and remain unbeaten on Tuesday night.

Miller Towson, Chase Gilley, Aaron Singletary and Luke Felts each added a goal for East Lincoln, and Towson and Chase Gilley each had two assists and Logan Gilley had one.

North Lincoln faces Maiden on the road on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in a conference match.

VOLLEYBALL

Maiden 3, Lincolnton 0

Led by 13 kills and five aces from Abbey Smith, the Blue Devils won a South Fork 2A match on Thursday night at home, 25-11, 25-10 and 25-6.

Nicole Hutchinson added eight kills, Faith Herman had 36 assists and five aces and Lauren Xayavong had fie digs for Maiden.

The Blue Devils are in second place– one match back of league-leading East Lincoln – and they are two matches up on teams in a three-way tie for thid (Bandys, Lake Norman Charter and North Lincoln).

Maiden plays at home Thursday night at 6 p.m. against Bandys.

Lincolnton, 0-7 in the league, goes to Newton-Conover for a 6 p.m. match on Thursday.

JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL

East Burke: The Cavs announced Wednesday they will go to Cherryville on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. game rather than to North Rowan as originally scheduled.

West Iredell: The Warriors have rescheduled their missed game against North Iredell last week to Oct. 1.

POSTPONEMENTS

Boys soccer: The Maiden at Lake Norman Charter match in the South Fork 2A and the West Caldwell at St. Stephens match in the Northwestern 3A-4A, both originally scheduled for Monday, have each been reset for Thursday night.

Monday’s Northwestern 3A match, Watauga at Hickory, is also rescheduled for Thursday night.
