TAYLORSVILLE – Zach Brzycky, who won nine games and struck out 101 last season for Alexander Central High, will play baseball next season for Virginia Tech.
He had an ERA of 1.75, pitched 55 innings and issued 34 walks as the Cougars went 19-10 overall and 11-3 in the North Piedmont 3A to finish second in the conference behind Lake Norman.
Alexander Central, in its second season under head coach Pete Hardee, advanced to the state 4A playoffs and beat Richmond County 2-1 in Taylorsville before being eliminated via a 7-1 loss at Asheville Roberson.
Brzycky did not play baseball for the Cougars as a junior.
