OTHER AREA PLAYERS
HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)
Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal, a left-hander, made his 14th appearance – and his first start – on Wednesday night in the second game of a doubleheader against Greenville (S.C.) on the road.
Deal pitched four innings, giving up four hits, two runs (one earned), walking one and striking out six before a crowd of 4,091.
The Braves had a two-run lead when Deal left but fell 6-4 in seven innings when Greenville rallied against reliever Walter Borkovich.
Deal threw strikes on 37 of his 58 pitches and faced 17 batters.
The game was a makeup from a rained out April 15 game and came after Rome (40-26) had beaten Greenville 9-8 in eight innings in Wednesday’s first game.
Deal did not pitch in the opening game.
In 14 appearances this season, he is 4-0 with an ERA of 1.95 with two saves. He’s thrown 32 1/3 innings, allowed nine runs (seven earned), walked eight, hit two batters, issued one intentional walk and struck out 45.
Deal is 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA in his last 10 outings with two saves, 25 innings pitched, six walks issued and 38 strikeouts.
ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)
Zach Jarrett — who starred in high school at Hickory and in college at Charlotte — plays outfield for the Shorebirds (32-30), whose Wednesday night game at Kannapolis was rained out (it won’t be made up).
Delmarva has a doubleheader at Kannapolis on Thursday (4:35 p.m.).
On Tuesday in Kannapolis, Jarrett started in centerfield and batted third in each game. In the opening game, he went 0-for-3 and struck out twice. In the second game, he went 0-for-1 and walked twice.
In 59 games this season, he is batting .287 with 11 doubles, 10 home runs and 33 RBIs. He is hitting .286 with no home runs and seven RBIs in his last 10 games.
HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)
Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey was listed as last Friday night’s probable starter for Bowie in a game at New Hampshire but scratched from his 10th start by a non-pitching injury (see details in stories from provided links).
As of Wednesday night, he remained listed as “active” on the Bowie roster. Bowie (29-33) split a doubleheader with Trenton (N.J.) on Wednesday night, falling 4-3 in seven innings before winning 10-1 in seven innings in the nightcap.
Harvey is on the Baltimore Orioles’ 40-man roster, so if he were to go on the disabled list he would be considered on the major league roster during that time.
Harvey’s last appearance was June 1 when he made his ninth start of the season. He went two innings, gave up five hits and six runs (all earned), walked one and struck out none with Trenton (N.J.) winning 7-2.
Harvey faced 12 batters and threw strikes on 36 of his 59 pitches but gave up a double, triple and two home runs.
He is 1-2 this season with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.
