DOBSON – Sophomore middle hitter Sabrina’s Pinard’s 10 kills sparked Catawba Valley Community College’s 14th straight victory on Tuesday night in women’s volleyball.

The Red Hawks won 25-19, 25-18, 25-20 on the road against Surry Community College.

Adair Melton and Leslie Leonard added eight and seven kills, respectively for CVCC (15-3, 90-0).

CVCC has won 105 straight conference matches despite having several of its players a bit under the weather.

“We have several girls who are battling colds and sinus issues, and it showed on the court,” CVCC head coach Shannon Hudson said in a press release. “We played sluggish and were a little slow getting going.

“We made a lot more errors than we typically make, but I was proud of them for pulling it out and finishing.”

Tuesday’s win came on the heels of the No. 17 Red Hawks returning to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rankings.

CVCC’s next matches are in its invitational tournament scheduled Friday and Saturday at the Tarlton Complex (see earlier post on website).

“It’s going to be great competition,” Hudson said in the press release. “I told our girls that we’ve got to play a lot cleaner this weekend and step up our game a little bit.

“It’ll be nice to have those teams come in. It’ll push us and we can kind of see where we are moving to the end of the season.”
