HICKORY – Catawba Valley Community College’s women overcame a slow start on Saturday, beating visiting Wake Tech 65-44 to win for the fourth straight game.
Freshman Ivy Eller sparked the Red Hawks (11-2, 6-2 Region X) with 19 points and four rebounds. Sophomore Zharia Brown added 17 points and nine rebounds.
CVCC will next play on Tuesday, going to Louisburg College for a 5 p.m. start.
On Saturday, the Red Hawks fought through a difficult first half to lead 21-19 at the half.
CVCC shot just 9-for-32 in the opening half and had 14 turnovers.
The Red Hawks went on an 11-0 run to start the third quarter and outscored the Eagles (8-7, 4-5) by 27-8 in that quarter.
