DEAL

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Advanced Florida Fire Frogs)

Deal, a left-hander who played at Bandys High and Presbyterian College, made his fourth start of the season on Tuesday at Clearwater (Fla.), taking a 1-0 loss.

He pitched seven innings, allowing four hits, one run (earned) with one walk and six strikeouts and is now 1-1 this season with an ERA of 1.50.

Deal threw 59 of his 90 pitches for strikes, getting 11 groundball outs and facing 26 batters.

Florida (7-12) continues the series at Clearwater with a game on Wednesday.

In four starts this season, he’s thrown 24 innings and given up 13 hits, six runs (four earned) with six walks and 19 strikeouts. That has boosted his career pro totals to a 13-4 record with four saves in 133 1/3 innings with 32 walks, 128 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.30.

He is in his third pro season after signing with the Braves after a morning tryout at Bandys.

In Rome (Ga.) last season, Deal went 9-1 with an ERA of 2.17 in 27 games (five starts), earning two saves and pitching 78 2/3 innings. He walked 17 and struck out 82.

Deal’s career numbers heading into the season: 12-3 with 2.47 ERA, 41 games, four saves, 109 1/3 innings pitched with 21 walks and 109 strikeouts.

HARVEY

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md., Baysox)

Bowie won for only the fourth time in 18 games this season on Tuesday night — 2-1 before 758 fans in Erie (Pa.) — but Harvey did not pitch.

The Baysox finish a series at Erie on Wednesday, then head home to play Akron (Ohio) on Thursday at 6:35 p.m., and Harvey is listed as the probable starter for Bowie and scheduled for its fourth start of the season.

Harvey, a first-round draft pick by Baltimore after a sterling career at Bandys High, pitched last Thursday at Akron. He threw four innings, giving up eight hits, four runs (three earned) with no walks and seven strikeouts and did not get a decision.

Akron beat Bowie 7-4 as Harvey threw strikes on 64 of his 85 pitches and faced 20 batters.

He is 0-1 this season with an ERA of 7.82 after pitching 12 2/3 innings, giving up 21 hits, 21 runs (11 earned) with four walks and 19 strikeouts.

Harvey is in his sixth year in the minor leagues after being a first-round draft pick in 2013.

In his first five pro seasons, Harvey went 8-10 with an ERA of 3.11 with 47 appearances (all starts) and 176 2/3 innings pitched. He walked 60 and struck out 217.

ZACH JARRETT

(Class A Advanced, Fredrick, Va. Keys)

Jarrett, a former star at Hickory High and at Charlotte, went 1-for-4 on Tuesday night in an 8-1 road loss at Fayetteville. He batted fourth in the lineup and doubled in the seventh inning as 3,211 watched.

The Keys (8-10) are at Fayetteville on Wednesday night and Thursday night before playing Friday through Sunday in Winston-Salem (7 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on the other days).

Jarrett is hitting .405 in his last 10 games with one home run and five RBIs.,

He is in in his third pro season, playing first at Aberdeen (Md.) and then in 129 games last season at Class A Delmarva (Md.), where he hit .277 with 26 doubles, six triples and 14 home runs. He drove in 72 runs, walked 41 times and struck out 136 times and was a South Atlantic League (SAL) All-Star.
