ZACH JARRETT

(Class AA Bowie, Md., Baysox)

Jarrett, a former star at Hickory High and at Charlotte, was not in the lineup on Saturday when Erie (Pa.) won 6-1 at Bowie before 2,435.

It was the first game since Jarrett was promoted to Double A that he did not play.

Bowie, 7-22 and in last place in the Eastern League’s Western Division  closes a series with Erie on Sunday at 1:35 before going to Altoona (Pa.) to begin a three-game series on Monday.

Jarrett is hitting .263 this season with one home run and eight RBIs; he is hitting .176 with no home runs and three RBIs in his last 10 games. He’s struck out in 11 of his last 34 at-bats.

After playing 202 pro games, Jarrett is a .261 career hitter.

He’s in his third pro season, playing first at Aberdeen (Md.) and then in 129 games last season at Class A Delmarva (Md.), where he hit .277 with 26 doubles, six triples and 14 home runs. He drove in 72 runs, walked 41 times and struck out 136 times and was a South Atlantic League (SAL) All-Star.

HARVEY

HUNTER HARVEY

(Class AA Bowie, Md., Baysox)

Harvey, a first-round pick by Baltimore in 2013, is scheduled to make his next start on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a game at Altoona (Pa.).

He hasn’t pitched since making his last start on Wednesday in a 7-3 home loss against Richmond (Va.).

The Baysox fell at home Saturday against Erie (Pa.) 6-1 and they close that series on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. before heading to Altoona (Pa.) for a three-game series that starts on Monday.

Last Wednesday night, Harvey went 2 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, six runs (three earned) with three walks, one strikeout and two hit batters.

Harvey threw strikes on 30 of his 61 pitches and faced 16 batters, falling to 2-2 for the year with an ERA of 6.20 with 20 1/3 innings pitched. He has allowed 27 hits, 19 runs (14 earned) and seven home runs. He has walked eight and struck out 22.

He’s in his sixth year in the minor leagues. In his first five pro seasons, Harvey went 8-10 with an ERA of 3.11 with 47 appearances (all starts) and 176 2/3 innings pitched. He walked 60 and struck out 217.

DEAL

HAYDEN DEAL

(Class A Advanced Florida Fire Frogs)

Deal, a left-hander who played at Bandys High and Presbyterian College, did not pitch on Saturday when Tampa (Fla.) won 4-3 at the Fire Frogs.

He last pitched on Tuesday against Lakeland (Fla.), throwing six innings, giving up three hits, no runs, walking none and striking out out eight to improve to 2-1.

Deal has an ERA this season of 1.20, throwing 30 innings. He has allowed 16 hits, six runs (four earned) with six walks and 27 strikeouts.

He now has a 14-4 pro baseball record with four saves and an ERA of 2.20.

The Fire Frogs go to Lakeland for four games with the first game on Monday.

Deal is in his third pro season after signing with the Braves after a morning tryout at Bandys, and he pitched in college at Presbyterian.

In Rome (Ga.) last season, Deal went 9-1 with an ERA of 2.17 in 27 games (five starts), earning two saves and pitching 78 2/3 innings. He walked 17 and struck out 82.

Deal’s career numbers heading into the season: 12-3 with 2.47 ERA, 41 games, four saves, 109 1/3 innings pitched with 21 walks and 109 strikeouts.
