SHELBY EASTER CLASSIC: S. Caldwell continues winning ways, rolls past Shelby

South Caldwell is a win away from reaching at least 14 in 20 straight seasons.

SHELBY – South Caldwell High won its opener in the Shelby Easter tournament on Monday night, beating Shelby 13-3 to move within a victory of having at least 14 for 20 straight seasons.

The Spartans have won at least 14 games every season dating back to available records that go back to 1998. In that stretch they won more than 14 every year except 2013 (14-10).

Shelby dropped to 8-9 in the round robin tournament that continues through Thursday at Shelby High.

Today’s matchups are Burns vs. Kings Mountain at 4 p.m. in bracket No. 2, then Crest versus Shelby in bracket No. 1 at 7 p.m.

South Caldwell’s next game comes Wednesday at 7 p.m. in bracket No. 1 against Crest.

The bracket champions will meet in a title game on Thursday at 7 p.m. and there are also fifth and third place games that day.
