DENVER, N.C. – Thanks to West Caldwell High, the baseball title race isn’t over yet in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A.

Needing a win to keep alive at least a chance to share a title with East Lincoln, the Warriors nipped the Mustangs 4-2 on Thursday night in a game that included just nine hits but six errors.

The victory lifted West Caldwell to 8-8 overall and, more importantly, to 8-4 in the league.

East Lincoln dropped to 12-4 overall and 10-2 in the conference.

The Mustangs are still in first place, assured of at least sharing the title, and can win it outright on April 25 by beating Maiden at East Lincoln.

If the Mustangs were to lose to Maiden and then to West Lincoln, they’d be 10-4 and West Caldwell could earn a share of the title if it also beat Lincolnton and Bunker Hill to close the regular season.

West Caldwell is headed to the Causby Classic at Patton next week while East Lincoln will play in the Mingo Bay Baseball Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C..

The Warriors’ first game in the Causby is Monday against Draughn, while the Mustangs’ first game on their beach trip comes Tuesday.
