HICKORY – Hickory High opened its lead wider in the chase for a Northwestern 3A-4A girls’ soccer title on Wednesday night, beating second-place Fred T. Foard 2-0 on the road.
Ayden Vaughan and Jovanna Sanchez each scored a goal for the Red Tornadoes, who are 8-1-0 in the conference, and Jess LaFrancis and Amanda Rojo had an assist each.
Morgan Malikowski posted a shutout in goal for Hickory, which now leads Foard (7-3-0 league) by 1 ½ games.
The Northwestern 3A-4A plays a 14-match league schedule.
Hickory’s next league match comes April 25 at Watauga at 6;30 p.m., while Foard resumes conference play the same night with a home match at 6:30 p.m. against South Caldwell.
