HICKORY – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s women halted a three-game basketball losing streak Saturday, beating visiting Mars Hill 80-70.
Madi Suddreth had 26 points and 11 rebounds and freshman Madeline Hardy scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to spark the Bears (8-7, 3-4 South Atlantic Conference).
LRU also got 16 points from Hanna McClung and 11 from Kennedy Weight as the Bears outrebounded Mars Hill (1-9, 0-6) by 49-34 and outscored the Lions 36-12 in the paint.
Mariah Johnson scored a game-high 30 points for Mars Hill and added seven assists and Tatum Boggs added 21 points.
LRU improved to 4-3 in Shuford Gym this season with Suddreth, an Alexander Central High product, posting her fourth double-double of the season and her third in five games.
The Bears have won six straight over Mars Hill.
LRU’s next game is on the road on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. tipoff of a SAC game at Coker College.
