HICKORY – After starting the season at 2-0, Lenoir-Rhyne University’s softball team heads to Florida this weekend.

The Bears will travel to Clearwater, Fla., to compete in a tournament and play five games.
LRU opens play on Friday at 10 a.m., facing Hillsdale College, and then plays North Georgia at 2:30 p.m.
Games on Saturday are at 10 a.m. against Eckerd and at noon against Valdosta State.
Sunday’s game against Florida Tech is at 11 a.m.
The Bears’ next home game is Feb. 16 at noon against Virginia State.
LRU opened its season last Saturday in Murfreesboro, beating Chowan twice.
LRU 6, Chowan 2
Emily Kenley checked Chowan on six hits and two runs, pitching seven innings, to pick up a win for LRU.
Chowan did not score until hitting a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Erin Boone went 2-for-3, scored a run and drove in a run to pace the Bears. She hit a home run in her second at bat.
Talon LaClair and Leanna Sherrill each drove in runs for LRU with Sherrill’s two-run single in the seventh inning extending the Bears’ lead to 6-2.
LRU 5, Chowan 2
A run-scoring single by LaClair in the top of the third broke a scoreless tie, and the Bears scored twice in the fourth inning.
Savannah Moorefield’s single and an RBI sacrifice fly by Boone gave LRU a 3-0 lead through four innings.
After Chowan pulled within 3-2, Mackensi Swain had a seventh-inning, two-run double for LRU.
Brandi Parks pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and two runs. She struck out five.
Boone went 5-for-6 in two games with four runs scored and a home run.
