COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Bears’ Scott selected for league’s weekly defense award

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Landon Scott has been named the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Football Defensive Player Of The Week.

Scott, a sophomore defensive back from Moultrie, Ga., picked off two passes for 137 yards including a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the first quarter to help lead LRU to a 35-7 victory over Limestone last Saturday on the road.

Scott, who also finished with three tackles, had the longest interception return for a score by a Bears player since Michael Green (100 yards) in a playoff game in November 2012 against Fort Valley State at Moretz Stadium.

Scott has 28 tackles and a team-high three picks this season.

In addition, Scott was named the Southside Power & Fitness Ronnie Lott Heavy Hitter Award winner for the first time in his college career.

Southside Power and Fitness will make a contribution to Habitat for Humanity in the honor of Scott as this week’s winner of the Heavy Hitter Award.

LRU (3-4) is idle this weekend and then travels to Pembroke to play UNC Pembroke (1-5) on Oct. 28 at 4 p.m.
