AUSTIN, Tex. – Landon Whitson, a senior reliever who set a single-season record for saves for Lenoir-Rhyne University this baseball season, has earned Academic All-District honors.

Whitson’s selection to the NCAA Division II first team — as picked by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) — was announced on Thursday via an LRU press release.

He has a GPA of 3.54 while majoring in exercise science at LRU, and he played high school baseball at McDowell.

Whitson registered nine saves this season, earning first-team All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) honors after going 3-1 with an ERA of 2.01 with 42 strikeouts for the Bears (27-22, 13-14).

As an all-district pick, Whitson qualifies for consideration for first- and second-team Academic All-America honors. Those will be announced in June.
