Harvey, recalled to the big leagues Sunday by the Nationals, was the third pitcher used by Washington (2-3). He did not allow a hit or run and struck out one, facing three batters and throwing strikes on 10 on his 16 pitches.

The teams play again on Tuesday night at 7:20 p.m. in Atlanta.

Harvey last pitched in the major leagues for the Baltimore Orioles, the team that drafted him in the first round of the 2013 draft. He was with the Orioles organization through last season, pitching in 26 games as a reliever over three seasons.

After last season, Baltimore placed Harvey, a hard-throwing right-hander from Bandys High, on waiver. He was claimed by the San Francisco Giants and in spring training with the club in Arizona.

After the Giants removed him from their 40-man roster, he was claimed off the waiver list by the Nationals. Washington then sent him to Triple-A Rochester (N.Y.), where he pitched in two games before being called to the major leagues.

The appearance on Monday night was his 27th as a big-league player.

Harvey’s dad, Bryan, was an all-star reliever with two teams in the major leagues for nearly 10 seasons, saving 171 games.
