Visiting Maiden High swept West Lincoln in three straight games on Thursday to run its girls’ volleyball conference winning streak to 31 in a row.
The Devils, 2-0 in the South Fork 2A, won 25-9, 25-11, 25-11 and increased their win streak in conference regular-season matches to 31 — a final league regular-season match in the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A in 2014, all 28 league matches from 2015-16 and two conference wins this year.
Maiden got 18 kills and three aces from Kyle Morgan, nine kills from Evan Sherrill, 35 assists from Faith Herman, two blocks by Sara Wicker and three aces by Peyton McRee to beat the Rebels.
The Blue Devils are at home on Tuesday at 6 p.m. to play a conference match against Lake Norman Charter.
West Lincoln faces Newton-Conover on the road on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
St. Stephens 3, McDowell 0
The Indians won 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 at home to pick up their fifth win of the season and first in the Northwestern 3A-4A.
Lexie Hall and Avery Jackson combined for 28 kills to lead St. Stephens.
Madi Bolch and Rebecca Kirkland each had nine kills for the Indians, who also got eight from Sydney Otterberg, and Patti Jo Gotshall contributed three aces.
St. Stephens plays a league match on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at West Caldwell.
McDowell plays a conference match on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against South Caldwell in Marion.
Watauga 3, Alexander Central 2
The Pioneers won a Northwestern 3A-4A match on the road 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 26-24, 15-5 as Rebekah Farthing and Emma Clark combined for 43 kills.
Farthing had 32 kills and Grace Hagaman had 25 digs to lead Watauga.
Watauga meets Hickory in Boone on Tuesday at 6 p.m while the Cougars play that night, also at 6 p.m., at Freedom.
Hickory 3, Freedom 0
The Red Tornadoes won 25-10, 25-14, 25-19 in Hickory as Makayla Malbon had eight kills, Payton Cross provided seven kills and Ally Sweeney posted 11 digs.
Hickory travels to Watauga (6 p.m.) and Freedom is at home against Alexander Central (6 p.m.) on Tuesday.
Lincoln Charter 3, Bunker Hill 2
At Bunker Hill, Brentley Earnest’s 25 kills and 14 blocks and 18 kills by Anna Grace Lockey led Lincoln Charter to a non-conference victory (19-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-11).
Kennedy Facchino (22) and Loma Walker (14) led Lincoln Charter in digs.
The Bears have a Northwestern Foothills 2A match on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Draughn.
JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL
St. Stephens 28, Mountain Island Charter 8
Zak McLauchlin ran for 118 yards on 16 carries and rushed for two touchdowns to lead the Indians (1-1) to a junior varsity football win on Thursday night.
Fullback Matthew Hancock added nine carries for 55 yards and quarterback Gavin Marley completed all three of his passes, one to Charlie Woy for a TD.
Defensive lineman Justin Beltran led the Indians with five tackles and two assists with linebacker Sullivan Johnson adding four tackles and an assist and defensive back Troy Hicks and linebacker Ryheem Craig each making three tackles.
St. Stephens is idle this week before opening Northwestern 3A-4A play on Sept. 14 at Fred T. Foard.
BOYS SOCCER
West Lincoln 2, East Burke 0
The Rebels won at home in a non-league match despite eight saves from Cavs goalkeeper Sam Manuel.
West Lincoln scored a goal in each half.
West Lincoln is at home Wednesday at 5 p.m., playing Draughn, and East Burke goes to West Iredell on Wednesday for a Northwestern Foothills 2A match at 6 p.m.
