Maiden High’s girls rolled in three sets on Tuesday night to beat Lincolnton on the road 25-9, 25-15, 25-21 in South Fork 2A volleyball.
Kylie Morgan had 16 kills and Abby Driscoll had eight for the Blue Devils, who improved to 5-2 in the conference and sit 1 ½ games back of first-place East Lincoln.
Faith Herman posted 36 assists for Maiden.
East Lincoln (7-0) won 3-0 on Tuesday night at Newton-Conover.
Maiden plays a non-league match at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at home against Lincoln Charter and faces Bandys on the road on Thursday night at 6 p.m. in a conference march.
Lincolnton is at home on Thursday at 6 p.m. for a league battle, facing Newton-Conover.
East Lincoln 3, Newton-Conover 0
The league-leading Mustangs rolled in three sets – 25-5, 25-16, 25-7 – in Newton to remain unbeaten in the South Fork 2A.
East Lincoln’s next match is Thursday at 6 p.m. at Lake Norman Charter in a South Fork 2A matchup while the Red Devils, 1-6 in the conference, go to Lincolnton for a 6 p.m. league match on Thursday.
Alexander Central 3, South Caldwell 0
The Cougars won a Northwestern 3A-4A match in Hudson to hold onto second place in the conference at 6-1, one game back of Watauga.
Alexander Central plays at home on Thursday at 6 p.m. in a league match, facing West Caldwell.
South Caldwell, 1-6 in the conference, plays Watauga at South Caldwell on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Hickory 3, St. Stephens 2
The Red Tornadoes won a five-set Northwestern 3A-4A match on the road and took over sole possession of third place in the conference.
Hickory is 5-2 in the league and trails Alexander Central by one game and Watauga by two games.
The Red Tornadoes are at home Thursday at 6 p.m. for a league match, battling McDowell, and the Indians play at home Thursday (5:30 p.m.) against league rival Freedom.
Watauga 3, West Caldwell 0
In Boone, the Pioneers won 25-8, 25-14, 25-8 to stay unbeaten in the Northwestern 3A-4A.
Brooke Byrd has 12 kills and three digs, Rebekah Farthing added eight kills and five digs and Chloe Baldwin contributed five aces and seven digs to lead Watauga.
The Pioneers play a non-conference match at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Statesville.
West Caldwell, winless in seven league matches, travels to Alexander Central on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for a conference match.
BOYS SOCCER
Lake Norman Charter 2, East Lincoln 0
Scoring on a header by Collin Petty and Connor Hahn’s goal, Lake Norman Charter edged host East Lincoln in a South Fork 2A match.
The Knights’ first goal, by Petty, came less than a minute into the match when Petty fielded a deep throw-in by Cole Rasenberger and headed it into the net.
Hahn scored with 10 minutes to play when Joey Fieno played a long ball over the top to set Hahn up for a goal.
Adam Kennedy was in goal for a shutout for Lake Norman Charter (4-3-0, 2-1-0).
Goalkeeper Adam Kennedy and the Knights’ defense had the shutout for Lake Norman Charter.
East Lincoln fell to 6-4, 2-1-0 and trails Maiden and Newton-Conover in the conference race.
