MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Deal throws 1 2/3 innings in Braves’ loss

Hayden Deal found the strike zone often on Wednesday night, but Montgomery (Ala.) still beat visiting Mississippi 7-2.

Deal, a former Bandys High hurler, entered the Double A game with one out in the fifth inning. He pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing one hit, one run (one earned) while walking none and striking out one.

Deal threw strikes on 11 of his 14 pitches to seven batters before a crowd of 1,312.

The series continues on Thursday night in Montgomery, Ala.

Deal is 2-1 this season with an ERA of 2.97 in 18 games and has 36 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings.

After 105 pro games, Deal is 22-16 with n ERA of 3.31 and has 316 strikeouts in 356 1/3 innings.

Mississippi fell to 28-37 and is in last place in the Southern League’s South Division, a half-game behind Montgomery and 7 1/2 games behind division-leading Pensacola (Fla.).
