HICKORY – Blaine Prescott’s double and home run sparked Hickory to an 8-2 victory on Friday night over Delmarva (Md.), a win that has the Crawdads in sole possession of second place.

Hickory (37-49, 10-6 second half) is one game back of Hagerstown (Md.) in the Northern Division race after breaking a tie for second place with Delmarva (38-46, 9-7).
Game 2 of a four-game South Atlantic League (SAL) series is Saturday night at 7 p.m. at L.P. Frans Stadium. Game 3 is Sunday at 5 p.m. and the series finale is Monday at noon.
On Friday night, the Crawdads outhit the Shorebirds 11-5 and won despite making three errors.
Prescott hit his home run, a solo shot, in the first inning. It was his sixth of the season.
Brallan Perez went 2-for-5 with an RBI and Ricardo Valencia had two hits and drove in two runs for Hickory, which has won four of its last five games.
Collin Woody led Delmarva with a home run, a two-run shot in the fourth inning that was his fourth of the season.
A crowd of 2,525 saw Hickory’s bullpen shine. Kaleb Fontenot (4-2) gained a win after going four innings, giving up two hits and striking out two. Christian Torres pitched the final two innings for the Crawdads, striking out one, and he threw strikes on 14 of his 19 pitches.
Zach Muckenhirn went six innings as the Delmarva starter. He allowed seven hits, two runs (both earned), walked two and struck out three.
Shorebirds reliever Franciso Jimenez (4-2) took the loss, throwing two-thirds of an inning and giving up three hits, six runs (three earned) with a walk and a strikeout.
