HICKORY – A former East Burke High volleyball standout will play next season at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) after transferring.
CVCC athletic officials announced the addition of Lauren McCall, who will come from West Virginia Tech to play for the Red Hawks. She signed a national letter of intent on Friday, CVCC said in a press release.
“We are so excited to have Lauren joining our team,” said CVCC head volleyball coach Shannon Hudson. “She is a solid, experienced player who will have an immediate impact on the court.
“Her varied skill set makes her an invaluable asset, and I know she’s going to do great things as a Red Hawk.”
During her high school career at East Burke, McCall was named All-South Mountain Athletic 2A-3A three times. She was a player of the year in the conference and also in Burke County during her prep career and she also ran track and field for the Cavs.
A 5-foot-7 outside hitter, McCall provided a team-best 311 kills and 298 digs as a senior at East Burke, leading the Cavs to an 18-6 overall record and 12-4 conference record.
She was an Honors graduate at East Burke, a North Carolina Scholar graduate and a member of the National Honors Society.
McCall played in 31 matches (starting 21), registering 315 kills, 183 digs and 26 aces last season at West Virginia Tech.
She has played club volleyball for Carolina Select and plans to pursue an Associate in Arts degree at CVCC.
