HICKORY – Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) will be at home on Thursday night in women’s basketball, attempting to rebound after falling in their home opener.
The Red Hawks (1-1, 0-1 Region X, ranked No. 16 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, play the Montreat College junior varsity at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Tarlton Complex.
CVCC suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday night, falling 79-56 at home against Clinton Community College.
The Red Hawks’ win came earlier in the season over the Montreat JVs.
On Tuesday night, CVCC was forced into 30 turnovers and ended up with their first conference home loss of 20 or more points in head coach Tisha England’s five-plus years as head coach.
Leading 18-16 after the first quarter, the Golden Bears used a 15-0 run to start the second quarter to gain a double digit lead.
Tee Dorsey led Clinton (2-1, 2-0) with a game-high 24 points, while Briunna Anderson added 14 points.
Sherry Johnson and Zharia Brown each scored 14 points to pace CVCC, which trailed 42-30 at the half.
