WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Brown leads CVCC to win No. 23 with 20-point game

BOLIVIA – Grabbing a 21-point lead through the first quarter, the Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) women waltzed to an 88-44 basketball win on the road over Brunswick Community College on Sunday.

Playing at the Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatic Center, the Red Hawks improved to 23-4 overall and 17-2 in Region X.

CVCC next plays on Wednesday, closing the regular season with a Region X game at Clinton Junior College (5 p.m.).

On Sunday, Zharia Brown led the Red Hawks with 20 points while freshman Aniya Taylor added 18 points and sophomores Sherry Johnson and Danielle Rainey provided 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Brown had eight points in the first quarter as CVCC grabbed a 26-5 lead against the Dolphins (13-14, 6-13).

Kapria Pressley led Brunswick Community College with a game-high 24 points.
