Getting 10 hits and aided by four errors by Rutherford County, Taylorsville Post 170 remained unbeaten in American Legion baseball on Wednesday night with a home victory.
Trae Starnes had three hits, Grayson Chapman had two hits with three RBIs and Tyler Campbell added two hits and got a pitching in relief as Taylorsville edged Rutherford County 4-3 at Alexander Central High.
Post 170 wiped out a two-run deficit with three runs in the third inning and later broke a 3-all tie with a run in the inning to improve to 5-0.
Chapman hit a home run for Taylorsville, which was outhit 14-10.
Jace Crowe had four hits for Rutherford County, and Cameron Snethen and Jake Laughter each added two hits.
Crowe took the pitching loss as Rutherford County’s starter, going 5 1/13 innings. He gave up nine hits, four runs (all earned) with three walks and five strikeouts.
Campbell was the third pitcher used by Post 170, going 4 1/3 innings and allowing three hits. He walked one and struck out nine to go to 2-0.
Rhyne Johnson earned his third save of the season by getting two outs in the ninth inning. Both were via strikeout.
Taylorsville is now scheduled to be idle until a June 19 home game against Cherryville.
Cherryville 5, Hickory 4: Cherryville rallied at home after being down 4-0 and beat visiting Post 48 in 10 innings.
Hickory was up by four runs through five innings.
Cherryville won after drawing a walk and a bunt then being fielded and thrown past first base, scoring the winning run.
Post 48 (1-5) travels to Morganton to play Burke County on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Shuey Field in Morganton.
Lincoln County 11, Gastonia 8: Lincoln County ran its win streak to two with a home victory over Gastonia.
The Cardinals’ next scheduled game is Monday at Hickory at 7 p.m.
