Post 48 faces rival Caldwell County on Monday night at Fairgrounds

NEWTON – A well-pitched game got Hickory Post 48 its first win streak of the year on Friday night but it ended in the second game of a home doubleheader.
After Luke Davis (Hickory) three-hit visiting Henderson County 5-0 to give Hickory back-to-back wins for the first time this season, Henderson County won the nightcap 6-5.
Post 48 (4-7, 1-6 Area IV) is now off until Monday night when it plays host to rival Caldwell County, a 7 p.m. game at Henkel-Alley Field.
Hickory came into the doubleheader off an 11-8 win over Statesville. Davis was on, throwing a complete game. All three hits by Henderson County were singles, and Davis walked one and struck out seven.
Davis needed only 79 pitches to subdue Henderson County (4-3, 4-2). He threw 55 strikes including 16 on first pitches.
Post 48 scored all of its runs in the fourth inning and outhit Henderson County 8-3.
Henry Stewart (Hickory) had two hits for Hickory while Ryan Zych (Fred T. Foard) and Hayden Tabor (Fred T. Foard) each added one hit and drove in one run and Jack McGhinnis (Hickory) walked twice and scored a run.
Bryce Davidson went five innings and took a loss for Henderson County. He gave up eight hits, five runs (two earned), walked two and struck out one.
The shutout was the second of the year for Pot 48 pitching (6-0 win on May 18 at home over Statesville).
In the nightcap, it was tied 4-all into the sixth inning, when Hickory scored in the top of the inning for a 5-4 lead and Henderson County got two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Hickory outhit Henderson County 13-7.
Braydon Corn had two hits and two RBIs and Brady Parris provided two hits and two RBIs for Henderson County, which trailed 4-1 until a three-run fourth inning tied it at 4.
Four Post 48 players – Stewart, Zane Wilson (Newton-Conover), McGhinnis and Justin Skewes (St. Stephens) had two hits each – and each drove in a run.
Aiden Landrum (Fred T Foard), Hickory’s starter, went 3 2/3 innings. He gave up four hits four runs (all earned) with six walks and three strikeouts before Elijah Miller (Maiden) threw two innings. Miller allowed three hits, two runs (both earned), walked two and struck out none.
