BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Martinsville (Va.) Bulletin and other media outlets that cover Virginia Tech football are reporting former Maiden High football star Caleb Farley will miss his freshman season with an injury (see link below).

The story said Farley sustained a non-contact injury at the Hokies’ first practice this month.
Farley was expected to play wide receiver for Virginia Tech as a true freshman. He had 61 receiving yards – making some big downfield catches – and added 16 rushing yards in the Hokies’ spring game.
Virginia Tech opens its season on Sept. 2 against West Virginia at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.
Farley played quarterback at Maiden and was the Blue Devils’ leading rusher and passer each of the last three seasons.
As a senior, Farley (unofficially) ran 191 times for 2,481 yards, leading the Southern District 7 Athletic 2A in yardage, and scored a league-high 37 rushing TDs. He added 1,861 yards passing and 20 TDs.
Farley ran 184 times for 1,534 yards and 18 TDs as a junior and threw for 1,831 yards and 23 scores.
He ran 178 times for 1,514 yards and 19 TDs as a sophomore and threw for 1,000 yards and 10 TDs.
In the past 22 seasons, only one Blue Devils player led them in rushing more than three times – Tommy Henry did it four seasons starting in 2003 — and the other Maiden quarterback to lead the team in passing in three consecutive seasons over that same span is Matt Johnson (2009-13), who played college football at Charlotte.
